How to Set Safe or Blocked eMail Senders in Microsoft Outlook
If the Junk options from a specific email message aren’t handling what you’re trying to do for setting “safe” or “blocked” status for email senders or domains, there’s still a way to set them.
- From the Home tab in Outlook email, click on the “Junk” option in the menu bar to open the Junk dropdown.
- Select “Junk E-mail Options…” at the bottom of the dropdown menu. This will open a “Junk Email Options” popup box to apply for your email user shown at the top of the box (above the row of tabs).
- The “Junk Email Options” popup box contains 5 tabs:
- Options
- Safe Senders
- Safe Recipients
- Blocked Senders
- International
- From the Safe Senders tab, you can enter email addresses or domain names from which you want to allow receipt of email messages. Remember to click the Apply button to save your changes.
- From the Blocked Senders tab, you can enter email addresses or domain names from which you want incoming messages to always be treated as junk mail. Remember to click the Apply button to save your changes.
- You can set your junk email protection level on the Options tab. Remember to click the Apply button to save your changes.
- The International tab allows you to set Junk handling for languages; top level domain codes (such as .ca, .us, .mx); or language characters that use special encoding or character sets. Remember to click the Apply button to save your changes.
- The Safe Recipients tab claims that email messages sent to email addresses or domains listed there will not be treated as junk mail. There are options to import from a file or export to a file. Remember to click the Apply button to save your changes.
It appears that clicking the Okay button alone will not save changes – you need to click the Apply button first in order to save your changes.
